She Used To Put Her Hand On Our Backs, 2014, Performance and Sculpture, Lift, Plasticine, iPod, Speaker

This performance was created to question the notion that ‘energy’ could be shared between people. I explored the idea of subjective experience of beliefs in a social environment.

My grandmother used to put her hand on my back to wish me a good luck before I traveled which became our ritual over many years. However, since she got dementia, she no longer recognise me. Our ritual had come to the end, but I realised that I could still feel her on my back whenever I wish to feel her positive presence. I made my grandmother’s hand using clay and shared the process of making with people in a lift as a performance work.
